Miriam is 15 when she is sent to Kabul to marry a troubled and bitter 30 yr old. Nearly 2 decades later 15 yr old Laila is struck by tragedy and must leave her home and join Miriams household. The two girls find consolation in each other and become good friends. With the passing of time the Taliban rules over Afghanistan and the womens endurance is tested beyond their worst imaginings.
