As a wealthy young woman Florence Nightengale knew that she was expected to marry and have children but she wasn't interested in that. She wanted to spend her life helping others.
She was invited to nurse soldiers wounded in the Crimean War and saw an opportunity to make a difference to the world. By the time she left Crimea she had changed the face of nursing forever.
