The tragic events of Sept 11th, 2001, forever altered the American landscape, both literally and figuratively. Immediately after the jets struck the World Trade Centre the author, a former firefighter, reported to volunteer help. In the weeks that followed he was present on the front lines, attending to the wounded, sifting through the wreckages and mourning with New York's devastated fire and police departments.
